Sigma 4,5mm 2,8 EX DC anyone?
#1
Hello everybody,

I am thinking about getting a Sigma 4.5mm f/2.8 EX DC circular fisheye for Canon ASP-C sensors, mainly for taking all-sky astro-images. There is not too much information about this lens available in the internet (or maybe I just can't find it... <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />)

Is there anyone who knows this lens? Any information about the performance of this lens (not necessarily in astrophotography, but also under more common, daytime conditions or in lab tests) would be much appreciated.

Thanks a lot,

Herbert

You can find a test on lenstip.com polish version optyczne.pl. I don't think it's the best fisheye out there for that kind of shots though.

I've used this lens on a 1Ds3... a few of the 45 AF points even fall outside the image circle from what I remember.

That is what you get for using an APS-C circular fisheye lens on an APS-H size sensor camera <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' />

It's the only circular fisheye available for ASP-C (at least, as far as I know), so there is not much of a choice if you want to get all-sky images. The only question is: Is it worth the money?

I don't care about the AF at all. For night sky photography, I only use manual focus. It's easy - everything is at infinite distance anyway. <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Actually 1Ds3 <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' /> I've also tried the Sigma 8-12 DC on the 5D2... very sharp right up to the hard vignetting borders outside the intended/APS-C image circle!

Good to know - I only fear that my Mastercard won't accept their price tag... <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Sad' />
