They are filling holes in their lineup.
Sony have been criticized for lacking a wide-angle Zeiss primes and affordable primes.
85f2.8 & 35f1.8 are for A2xx A3xx A5xx users.
35f1.8DT seems fine for that market, but I'm surprised that the 85 is only f2.8.
