Amusing that the article mentions Sony, Olympus and Panasonic but overlooks Samsung...

However after unsuccessful lunch of FF to the folks.

BTW: How big is FF segment nowadays?

Unsuccessful "lunch" <sic>? Are you serious?

Full frame cameras are very successful. Don't confuse serious pro-tools with consumer high volume toys.

The FF segment is definitely big amongst professionals however I feel that 10 years ago, before digital SLRs became popular, an enthusiast could pick up a 'full frame' film SLR for a very small price. Nowadays one has to part with several hundreds of pounds to get the digital equivalent <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='B)' />

Gentlemen,

I’m wondering only in sales numbers – not from opinions.

I reckon they are still bigger than you think. Canon couldnt make enough 5DIIs for the first few months to keep up with consumer demand.

They still can't.

Kind regards, Wim

You were giving (a misinformed) opinion. The opinion that there had been an unsuccessful FF "lunch" <sic>.

Pointing out you are misinformed is not the same as giving an opinion.

That in the Netherlands more Opel Corsa's get sold than Audi A6's does not make the Audi A6 unsuccessful.

Nor does the fact that there are more cars sold in the so called B-segment (corsa, polo, 207 and so on) mean executive saloons (A6, 5-series, E-class and so on) are unsuccessful either.

Again, consumer snapshot high volume stuff (EVIL things included) are just that... high volume stuff. With lower profit margins and lower production costs. Serious semi-pro and pro photographers are fewer in number, so full frame gear will be less high volume (also because of the higher price of full frame sensors and full frame AA-filters).

Cellphones with camera have a higher volume too. Want to make the same connection there?

The 5D Mark II was especially popular by many people that had no true interest in a DSLR before: Videographers. I heard many more video people having a 5D Mark II and praise it than photographers. Certainly it was and is a success among photographers as well, but I think the excess demand was due to filmmakers.

And it's funny, because these guys seem to be fond of Nikon lenses as well. While the photographers quarrel about their systems and point fingers at each other from their priggish positions, the video people just took the best of both worlds: true HD video on a FF sensor with shallow DOF features impossible with any camcorder and superb manual focus lenses.
