That's a good point. Now, if Canon employs the sensor technology used in the 1D4 in a 12 MP FF sensor, will they achieve the same result as the D3s? My suspicion is yes.
Also, I really do not know why Canon does not want to resort to in-camera RAW NR cheating like Nikon, Pentax, Sony, Panasonic etc. If everyone does it, why not join the party? Astrophotographers are just a very small group of users.
