next PZ Lens Test Report: Samyang 14mm f/2.8 IF ED AS (APS-C)
#21
Well, you'd gain a threaded view that is similar to the old forum. It was a popular request by many (including the site owner <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='B)' /> )

The setting is enabled per user, not per thread. To enable it, click the drop down arrow next to your login name in the box on the top right, select My settings, select Forums and choose "outline" as topic display mode.

Ah.... and I thought that the new format is a great improvement.... <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='B)' />

I have yet to see any sub-thread in this forum's new format. I thus probably haven't enable it nor - I must add - do I feel any need to. What will I gain if I do so?

The ability to easily determine which post the newest point is going "No so." at. Most of the threads here are not all that complex, but occasionally it can be a help. I guess you didn't use Usenet back before the days of Web forums? Threading was very important then. It's a courtesy to those who prefer their forum threaded to use the right reply button, and surely not an onerous task.

Correct. I'm online 10 years and only used forums.

Yes, those were the days. My first online experience was with a 2400 kBaud modem and Compuserve (which was even pre-Usenet). Their first invoice was a terrible shock <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />

However even Usenet started out flat and it took a while until news readers offered really usable threaded views (I remeber FreeAgent as one of the first with really usable threaded view on Windows).

Even today, some prefer a flat view and this leads to the same issue we face here: to suit both, careful selective quoting should be used.

Oh, I remember those days. With a 300 baud modem, upgraded very rapidly to 1200 baud, and boy, was that fast. <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Big Grin' /> That was back in 1986 <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Big Grin' />. I remember spending more than a whole monthly salary on online costs in less than two weeks, in 1987, just trying to find some answers to some esoteric stuff on hacking into some developer backend I needed for a lecture I presented <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Big Grin' />.

Kind regards, Wim

Thank you Klaus for the test!

Really good to know I have not waited in vain the new/revised Samsung 14mm model. The CA/flare problems seem to be handled well. I ordered an eos-copy from Sweden for 282 €. It is tack sharp even wide open. I bought it for my 1D Mk3 -body and it works well with it, but it doesn´t work at all with 1Ds Mk2. I don´t know why but so it is. The shutter is locked for some reason. I use many Zeiss contax and Leica R lenses with af-adapters, but this kind of problem has never occurred.

Does anybody know the reason for this incompatibility with 1Ds Mk2 -body? Samyang 14mm does not have any contact ship, as af-concormed adepters do. Is it so that 1Ds Mk3 does not work without the ship.

Sounds very odd to me. The camera doesn't even know that a lens is attached here.

Yes it seems quite odd also to me. but the problem is now solved, I found it!

The reason is that in 1Ds Mk2 body there is (still) an extra swich under the lens mount in the position of 10

o´clock in the same way as in older film eos bodies. The switch allows the body to reckon if the lens is ef-compatible lens. This extra switch must be locked up mechanically in order to be able to use all af-concormed adapters and Contax/Leica lenses. After taking off the handmade "lock" camera worked normally.

regards pixee
