Sigma 70-200 OS available from July 23

[quote name='Brightcolours' timestamp='1283778595' post='2528']

For me that is a valid argument and issue for (against) both the Sigma OS and the Nikon VR II <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />.

Whether it is an issue depends on the photographer.. <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />

I agree that the €600 savings may be very worthwhile.

600EUR is a lot of a money, no doubts - that's a 25% difference. The Sigma has no sealing so you'd get a little less as well although this will not equalize the price difference. However, if you've reached THIS price level anyway you'll always ask yourself whether the real thing wouldn't have been better. That's certainly different when considering something like a Tamron 70-200/2.8.

That is not an issue. Hey, do you realize that on MFD with that breathing you barely can take a headshoot?

After I look for your comments here and on other forum I realize one thing about you, you are 100% a Canon fanboy.

When will Tamron introduce 70-200 F2, USD VC is only matter of time, maybe it will happen at Photokina.

You could also just take a LOOK at my photography to understand that for me (and other photographers) it actually IS an issue, 100% Nikon fanboy.

That for SOME photographers the big breathing factor and low magnification at MFD is not a problem, does not mean for others it is not ideal at all.

Now can we stop the name calling? And try be a bit more objective.

I think you may be a bit harsh here. I also think that isn't true either, considering, f.e., the comments in the thread started by vieux loup about getting a new dslr.

However, when one shoots Canon most of the time, that is where one's reference points lie, that's certain. It is true for me, for sure.

And Brightcolours may have strong opinions, but that's fine. I think it means you have to think carefully about what you say or want to say, which is good in my book. As long as Brightcolours stays polite, and as far as I can see he does, I don't think there is a problem. Furthermore, I also think he says what other people merely think. I thought the same, but didn't say it. However, I am not really interested in zooms anymore, so I stayed out of that discussion <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />.

An F/2? Is that a typo or for real? If so, thumbs up to them!

Kind regards, Wim

No need to reciprocate; I just defended you <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Big Grin' />.

As said 70-200 VRII completelly fill it's designation as tele lens, if you need a macro lens than buy it.

I'm not harsh with brightcolurs, he is bashing almost every Nikon lens on every forum and not just here on photozone.

Yes, it's typo. In any case I expect it to be cheaper than Sigma.

I haven't seen what I would call unreasonable bashing here for quite a while. One of the things I like about this community here is that we don't have "fanboys" in the negative sense. And I would prefer it to stay that way.

In cannon land I can see only three reasons to buy such sigma.

1. You hate white color

2. You want to do some research in frontfocus, backfocus, focus shift, focus inconsistency.

3. You want to meet our favorite photo shop and sales representative several times before you find sample that should work somehow.

What are the alternatives in Canon land?

1. 70-200/ 4.0 IS – it under 900Euro. Nothing wrong if it.

2. 70-200/ 2,8 MK1 – The only drawback is the old IS

3. 70-200/4,0 – durty cheap but good enough for FF body.

Greetings,

Miro.

PS I’m 3-th party lens fan-boy. My gear is

1. canon 400D, 50D + canon 70-200/4.0L + canon 50/1,8MK1. The last is for sale

2. Sigma 10-20/4.0-5.6

3. Tamron 17-50/2,8 – non VC

4. Tokina 100 Macro.
