Hi as of now I have the 7D with EF 24-105 L and am thinking of selling my Sigma 10-20 to purchase the sigma 8-16, but I do need a 2nd body because I just got into Baptisms and weddings and thought maybe I should buy the 5D Mark II and keep my 7D as backup and not buy the 8-16 and consider the sigma 12-24 instead, but my question is the 5D II body I can buy new for 1,900,00 Euro but don't know if it will be worth it and maybe just buy the Canon 550D as a back up to my 7D instead, can someone that owns both shed some light on this as some samples that I have seen with the 7D and 5D II I can't really see that much difference in IQ to justify the cost, although I do have the money to buy the 5D II thanks.

If you are getting into baptisms and weddings, you might consider what lenses you need, since the light is not always optimal. The 7D will do that kind of work fine, but a good 1.4-1.8 portrait prime (or the 24-70 or 70-200 2.8) will probably make much more difference to your work than a new camera body (though you could then afford the 550D too). I've been working for years just taking 1 body along, because I can't be bothered lugging around the extra weight. <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='  ' />
IMO, ultra wide angles are of limited use for such jobs.

If you want to use the Sigma 12-24 EX for landscapes, I think you might get disappointed. The 8-16 is essentially the same lens for APS-C, but with a completely new design, and quite a bit better too, just say, the difference between a rough log table and a table made from the finest polished olive, cherry or pear wood.. If I were you and I wanted a relatively cheap extreme UWA zoom, that is the only lens I would opt for, having owned a 12-24 EX. I actually exchanged the 12-24 for a Nikkor 14-24 with G-EOS adapter, and that again I exchanged for a TS-E 17L (which I kept <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=' ' />). However, this on FF, not on APS-C.
The 16-35 II is a bread and butter lens for many journalists and reportage shooters, but not so much on APS-C as on FF.
However, if you can't see the difference, I wouldn't bother, get the 8-16, and a 550D for backup.
Having said all that, I think it is very hard to go back once you've shot FF.

If you stick with the APS-C format, all your lenses are belong to do the same thing. That makes it easier to get used to them and to know what to grab when you need to change. Unless you're unhappy about the quality from the 7D, I'd say get a 550D as a backup and spend the remaining money on better glass. Good wide-aperture primes, as suggested below.
