@GTW, I haven't tried photographing that sort of "bird" yet, so maybe my opinion on best kit would change if I did <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
I guess I Should also have said, that although people often ask what is "best", what they really want is "good enough". Certainly FF offers advantages over APS-C, but the sensor is only one part, and the other features may be more important to help you do what you want to do. I'm continuously learning, and got a 5D1 to play with shallow(er) DoF, at which point I found out I didn't really need it. What I can achieve with a fast prime on APS-C is "good enough" for now.
I haven't done the sums, but I suspect my camera kit value is now higher than my car value... but I do need a car!
