Lightroom 3 final is here
#10
Old news but after playing a little with lightroom 3, here's my opinion.

As many said, the new RAW engine really is impressive. Although it does seem to make low ISO noise more visible (very fine grained;smoothed easily with luminance slider with good control of details) it really does wonders at high iso pictures. Just switching from 2003 process to 2010 shows : improved shadows, contrast, detail. Clearly 1,1&1/2 stop improvement, at least on the E-P1.

Performance wise, I must say I'm not sure I saw such a big boost. My system is a quad core intel q6600 + 4 gigs of ram + gf8800gtx (tremendous graphical power probably completely unused) so it was quite good already I suppose.

The lens correction module, in manual mode, is quite well done and the few auto mode profiles seem to work quite nicely too.

The custom print package is also nice but frankly, this module still seems a little underachieved.

And this time, no issue at migrating my lightroom catalog... I remember dreadful times when two sets of tags were created because I switched languages (red labels, labels rouges..., first year computer science students learn to implement locales correctly), flags status would be disrupted... It was pathetic but this time, seemed to work just fine !

Greetings,

S.
