Sony E 16mm f/2.8 production-spec samples on dpreview
#1
There : "production spec", funny how they don't mention any change in lens design. Not that we'd really believe they'd do that in a month prior release.

http://www.dpreview.com/news/1006/100603...allery.asp

Not sure if any of the posted samples is of any help to see any improvements. Either shot at something like f/11 or shot of nearby objects well centered with corners out of focus. Oh well!

The lens still attracts me for its 24mm equivalent and evenmore so considering it's sold 500€ with a camera attached on it (rather than "the camera is sold with the lens for 500€" ;-)). As early reviews say, the cameras are so-so but maybe a better deal than to wait for Panasonic or Olympus to release a 24mm lens equivalent ALONE for 500€+??

Greetings, S.

Frankly the corners are still not impressive.

There is an f/2.8 shot of a brick wall.

I am quite surprised by the corners... production copy, eh?

I just recently looked it up (due to the latest NEX5 superzoom test here).

That image on dpreview is extremely soft in the corners, but I don't really care much about that.

I think it is a worse problem that the center is also not good, it has this CA-ish look to the whole image that makes my head hurt <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Shame, I really wanted to like it as "good enough". For a snapshot camera I don't care that much about the corners, but wide-open it just doesn't look acceptable.

I go for the best lenses and when it comes to measurements and resolution tests, I go to the extent of getting hold of the lenses and doing them myself because I'm _that_ pedantic and extremely technical about things. So all I can say is you guys are completely missing out because of dpreview('s incompetence) and it's a sad thing to see.

The Nex-5 + 16mm is a fantastic combo and yes, it's sharp wide open and f/2.8 is the only aperture I use! My usual/previous favourite was the 5D2+24L II*... yes... so I do have standards when I say that <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

GTW

* which I still have for more demanding shots but haven't even taken out once since I got the Nex around a month ago

Could you post some example shots?
