Fun thread: your ideal camera/lens lineup '2017
#1
I thought it might be fun. What would be your (mildly realistic) ideal camera / lens lineup, taking into account all the exciting new products announced / released recently?

I'd say 2 cameras, 5-6 lenses max. for each system (if you intend to list more than one system, well... all bets are off. Smile)

My take 1 - conservative (marked in bold are the units that I already have):

Primary camera: Canon 1D Mark IV

Secondary camera: Canon 80D

Lenses:

Sigma 14/2.8 (I have it but might opt to replace it with a Sigma 8-16/4.5-5.6 - I'm investigating this lens now);

Canon 16-35/4 L IS;

Canon 24/1.4L II;

Tamron 45/1.8;

Tamron 85/1.8;

Canon 100-400/4.5-5.6L IS II.

My take 2 - radical / mirrorless:

Primary camera: Fuji X-T2

Secondary camera: ?

Lenses:

Zeiss Touit 12/2.8

Fuji 16/1.4

Fuji 18-55/2.8-4

Fuji 55-200/3.5-4.8 or Fuji 100-400/4.5-5.6

 A basic kit for traveling abroad would be; (from stock)

 Nikon D500+ Tamron G2+ Sigma 150mm F2.8 macro + Samyang 14mm F2.8...+ a kit zoom lens ( AF-S 18-105mm VR)

 Closer to home or travelling in the camper;

 Nikon D500 + D750+ Nikor AF-S 500mm F4D + Tamron G2.........a selection of primes AFD 20/28/35/50/85mm + Samyang 14mm F2.8 + Sigma 150mm F2.8 macro.

Camera

Fuji X-E3, featuring the same specs as an X-T20 but with an EVF the size of the one in the X-T1 or X-T2. Ideally, the body should be smaller than the XE-2. I find the size of a Panasonic GX80/85 to be perfect for my hands.

Lenses

I'm not very thrilled with the line of f/2 lenses produced by Fuji. Yes, they are great optically, but I don't like their form factor.

I wish Fuji would have gone the pancake route, ala Pentax. Clearly, they designed these lenses with the X-Pro in mind (to not obstruct the OVF)... That's a bummer.

Anyway, since a set of pancakes is not gonna happen, here is what I hope for:
  • New version of the 18mm f/2 pancake. Same size but much better IQ. Tack sharp at f/5.6 which is not the case of the current version.
  • New version of the 35mm f/1.4. Same size and optics but with current AF tech.
  • A true 1:1 90 or 100mm f/2.8 macro
  • A 27mm f/2 pancake lens. Ideally, the same size as the Canon 22mm f/2. I really lust for this Canon lens... ;-)
Wild dream

Fuji to design and incorporate IBIS tech as good as Oly's in their latest cameras so they could get rid of all OIS lenses (simpler design, more reliable, etc.). However, given the lack of space in the mount it seems to be next to impossible.

TS-E 90 F/2.8

MP-E 65 F/2.8 Macro

The only other lenses I could think of are

11 or 12 F/4L (I like the idea of the 11-24 F/4L but I tried it and it is HUGE)

105 F/1.4L or F/1.2L (the latter is maybe a bit over the top)

MFT set (owned and happy with):

Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II Black

Olympus Pen F Black

Lenses (owned and happy with):

Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 12mm 1:2.0

Metabones EF-MFT mount T Speed Booster XL 0.64x

Metabones EF-MFT mount T Speed Booster ULTRA 0.71x

Metabones EF-MFT mount T Adapter

The only thing I could think of which I would like to own but not really need, is the Panasonic Leica 100-400, and possibly a frame filling fish-eye.

And a lens which doesn't exist yet, namely a 5.5mm or 6 mm F/2 - I really like UWA.

In short, I have more or less what I would like already, and do not feel hampered in any way.

Essentially once I replace the 5D II with a 5DsR, that would become my new MF, even though it is FF, and the MFT setup effectively has already become my new FF Smile.

I will probably still change lenses here and there, as I am still trying out stuff with MFT, but I do expect to end up with a bunch of fast, heavier primes, a bunch of light and small but good primes, a macro setup, a set of high end zooms, and a set of good enough standard zooms.

Actually, looking at all of this, I really feel very blessed.

Kind regards, Wim

Gear: Canon EOS R with 3 primes and 2 zooms, 4 EF-R adapters, Canon EOS 5 (analog), 9 Canon EF primes, a lone Canon EF zoom, 2 extenders, 2 converters, tubes; Olympus OM-D 1 Mk II & Pen F with 12 primes, 6 zooms, and 3 Metabones EF-MFT adapters ....
