next PZ lens test report: Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 USM IS
#2
Hi Klaus,

I believe, you're on the wrong track here:

Cite: "The Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 USM IS is the third incarnation by Canon in this lens class. It's not exactly easy to distinguish between the different generations because Canon didn't bother to add the usual mk (I,II,III) to the name."

Canon does never add a "I" ... it does add a "II", "III", "IV" and so on.

However, Canon only does this, if all the rest remains the same ...

but that is not the case here.

One of the fellows has a micromotor ... one has STM ... one has USM ...

and all of these are the (invisible) version "I" of their respective kind.

Hence, Canon did not add anything to the name.

This has been entirely the same in analog times with the EF 28-80/3.5-5.6

also with the 28-90 and the 28-105 ... so there is really nothing

one can complain about with the naming scheme of the 18-135
