Uh, they're nuts.

Maybe they took too much umbrage after being accused of having not enough units in the early days of the system.

As much as I'm appreciating new pancakes, I'm still waiting for an ultra-wide one.

They almost look like a copy of the Sigma 1 series ...

Right... The Canon RF 50mm f1.8 is more pancakey...

I don't think it will be easy to make pancake 50mm and 40mm lenses for mounts with such small flange distances.

Well, there had been pancake lenses for mirrorless mounts before, just not for full frame... Am I correct?

There is the Samyang 35mm f2.8 which is a pancake lens: https://samyanglens.com/en/product/produ...hp?seq=151

So if Samyang can do it, why not Sony?

Seems very doable.

35mm is less than 40mm and certainly less than 50mm. And it is not quite pancake but close enough I guess. Only f2.8 which helps.

I admit the lines are blurred, but yes, I was not aware that the Samyang 35 is so small. The IQ is an unknown value though as Klaus had not tested it yet (but Lenstip wasn't that disappointed)

When pancakes are mentioned, I am thinking of food... er, the Canon 40/2.8 (FF but not ML) or the Samsung gang of three (ML but not FF).
