Well 70-300 IS was worlds apart from its predecessor and from 75-300, do you think they modified the optical formula ?

my guess, it's the same with added STM and the LCD display

If the lens indeed is a 70-300mm f4-5.6 L IS USM III, it will not have an STM motor. My guess is that it will have revised optics, the old lens is not perfect, room for improvement. Filter thread size went from 58mm to 67 mm, by the way.

Lets hope the LCD display does not require a PIN number, or else I may no go to the ATM machine to get some cash t buy one.

No, you didn't. They have an OLED-display-display (just to mention enough it's not a recently discovered sickness)

in the picture they have a black lens without the red ring, so it's not an upgrade for the 70-300IS L but rather to the standard 70-300IS

Sorry, I did not mean the L. Nor the III. So again: If it indeed is a EF 70-300mm f4-5.6 IS USM II, it won't have STM.
