Well 70-300 IS was worlds apart from its predecessor and from 75-300, do you think they modified the optical formula ?
my guess, it's the same with added STM and the LCD display

My guess is that it will have revised optics, the old lens is not perfect, room for improvement. Filter thread size went from 58mm to 67 mm, by the way.
