50mm deluge continues: a Macro this time

Quote:If only the lenses had been priced by the pound (or by the amount of glass elements)... the Sony system would have been among the most affordable!  Tongue
Sony FE 70-200mm f4 G OSS 840 grams. Canon EF 70-200mm f4 L IS USM 760 grams.

Sony FE 70-200mm f2.8 GM OSS 1490 grams without tripod mount. Canon EF 70-200mm f4 L IS USM II 1485 grams.

Sony FE 50mm f1.8 185 grams, Canon EF 50mm f1.8 STM 160 grams.

Sony FE 24-70mm f2.8 GM 886 grams. Canon EF 24-70mm f2.8 L USM II 805 grams.

Are you sure about that?   ^_^  Wink

Hm... I was obviously thinking of some different lenses. My bad (even though I'm sure there can be contrary examples).

Hehe, of course you can find other examples.

Fact remains that if a EF-S 10-18mm can be produced that cheaply, a small elements nacro like this does not have to cost $600. The glass is the expensive time consuming element, in lens production.

Speaking of macro costs: Leica opens up the range to 3000 $  for an APS-C camera which costs 1080 $

Should be able to X-ray and brew coffee

To uhmm.. Leica's defence  , it is not a 50mm lens. And a more comprehensive, with 4 aspherical lenses, and 10 elements. And uhmm.. what else. Oh yes, it is pretty much a bespoke item, being available in two finishes and only for the Leica T, which then may mean there will only be 1 sample per finish since no-one is buying Leica T  Big Grin .

And what else. Oh yeah, it is 500$ cheaper than the 5mm shorter in focal length Zeiss Otus 55mm f1.4  B)

Yeah, but that is no Macro.

Hmmm and no APS-C only, either.

And maybe it would just rip out the mount. I think, the Otii should come with a tripod socket. Rethink: A complete tripod would be cheaper...

From David Kilpatrick's analysis, the front element does not extend that much which indicates a combination with internal/rear focusing.

Hopefully we'll see Klaus give it a spin in the lab someday, and then all our questions will be answered. "September" due date (from the announcement) probably means that it will start hitting the store shelves big time in, oh, about a month. Maybe Lenstip will chime in in the interim.
