Rokinon prime lenses on a Canon- and/or Nikon-mount
#1
Hi everybody,

has anybody had any experiences with the Canon/Nikon-mount Rokinon lenses? They appear to be really affordable. No autofocus though...

Rokinon 35mm f/1.4 AS UMC

Rokinon AE 85mm f/1.4 AS IF UMC

I would be curious to see, how they stack up to Canon's primes.

Cheers,

I believe they're a re-badge of the Samyang lenses which have already been reviewed.

They are, as are a bunch of other ones (Vivitar comes to mind too, but there are others).

Kind regards, Wim

I guess some "Bower" lenses have the same optical design also (e.g. the 35mm f/1.4)

quite right, plenty of names, here is what I found for the 8mm Samyang:

Bower 8mm (USA), Polar 8mm (Korea), Falcon 8mm (UK/PH), Pro-Optic (Adorama), Rokinon 8mm (ebay), Walimex 8mm (Germany), T.K.L./TKL (Italy), Bell and Howell 8mm (USA), Vivitar 7mm, or Opteka 6.5mm

as always, photozone doesn't disappoint <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />. Thanx for your infos guys. The rebranding alone tells me that those are probably not lenses I should consider seriously.

I just rented the 35 from lensrentals. I read that it was insanely sharp for the price and beat out Canikon competition. Duclos even wrote an article comparing it to the Zeiss 35 and said they were both equally sharp, the Samyang just has CA and more pronounced vignetting. So for that price I wanted to rent it to see if it was worth buying.

It definitely performs stellar and beat the Nikons I've used, never touched Canon, but for a manual focus ring the markings were way off. This really hurt the lens useability for me. If it is only manual focus it should have a accurate, well marked focus ring with at least 180 degree rotation. This thing was off all over the place only rotated about 100 degrees. Pee-eew, I'd go with anything else, this just slows me down too much and really effected the job I was on.

actually, look at the tests here at photozone, they are very capable lenses. don't discount them. Perhaps now that Samyang is becoming more well known name, they may try to improve their image.

It's a known problem with the distance scale. It's actually (at least for some lenses) quite easy to adjust the scale on the fish-eye, see

http://photonius.wikispaces.com/Fish-eye...+Stitching, and I have seen posts about other lenses too.

Anyway, since it was from lensrental, they should adjust it.
