Based on reviews here and elsewhere I bought the 16-85 with D7000 and avoided the kit lens. Looking at the updated reviews here with the D7000 and comments in threads, the difference may be less than I originally thought, making the 18-105 VR kit a bit of a bargain (e.g. see this thread: [url="http://forum.photozone.de/index.php?/topic/1089-next-pz-lens-test-report-nikkor-af-s-dx-16-85mm-f35-56g-if-ed-vr/page__view__getnewpost__fromsearch__1"]My link[/url])

Having said that, I really like the wide angle of the 16-85 (24mm Full frame equivalent compared to 27mm with the 18-105) and the lens seems very sharp to me, so I'm well pleased with it. <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Check out the review of the 18-200 [url="http://www.opticallimits.com/nikon--nikkor-aps-c-lens-tests/633-nikkor182003556vrii?start=2"]here[/url]. Not as good.

I think I'd choose the 18-105VR kit over body + 50mm prime to start with.
