If you have the choice between a DR of 14 stops versus 12 stops, all other things being equal, why would you possibly choose the one with less DR?

To me, the more DR you have, the better. Yes, you reduce the DR by increasing contrast in pp, etc. But more DR gives you more flexibility if needed.

Mostly it means being able to recover shadows with very low noise. In this regard, the sensor of the D7000 or Pentax K5 is simply outstanding. I clearly see this as an advantage.

With very low dark read out noise, you can underexpose your shot to preserve highlights and push the shadows in pp while keeping details in the bright areas.
