The cheaper SD1 Merrill might swing some who were blocked by the original SD1 pricing, and longer term I think Sigma still have a good chance to get more mainstream traction for the sensor and get costs further down.



Personally I would gladly trade off high ISO performance for the colour accuracy of the foveon. Not everyone shoots ISO-infinity all the time, and when you can use low ISO, I think there is enough of a tangible difference. Use the right tool for the job. Bayer pattern type sensors can only compensate their inherent limitations by increasing pixel count, which has not been happening anywhere near as fast as it could.
