It's quite widely known that Nikon and Sony have some relationship when it comes to DSLR sensors. For example, the sensor in the D3x is a modified one of the one in the a900/a850. The D300 sensor also seems to be similar to the a700 sensor. Nikon themselves have admitted to this here and there.
