Quote:My kit (Fuji) mostly consists of the following trio: 23 f1.4, 35 f1.4 and 56 f1.2. They translate to 35, 53 and 85 FF equivalent.
I tend to mostly use the 23 as a walkaround because it's reasonably wide angle while still usable as a full body portrait lens. I find this focal length to be extremely versatile.
When I want to do some "serious" portrait work with great DOF control, I use the 56 f1.2.
I tend to not use the 35 so much because it's either to tight as a walkaround focal or too short for portraits...
One could say it's a nice compromise between the other 2 focals, but in practice I just find the 23 much more versatile.
What single prime lens do you guys use if you have to pick only one?
I'm a recent Fuji convert, mainly because of the portability and high quality lenses.
My hiking kit is mostly becoming the Voigtlander 15/4.5, Fuji 35/1.4 and Fuji 60/2.4 macro. Paired with the X-A1/M1 the whole kit is less than 1kg and I love the rendering from all three lenses. I started with the Fuji 18/2 and like it, but the Voigtlander is worth the little extra weight IMO. I can also drop the 35mm if I'm doing endurance hikes where the weight matters.
I recently took the Fuji to a concert and found the 23/1.4 to be perfect for it. Wide enough, but crazy sharp at wide apertures, and tight enough if you get close to the subject. So if I had to pick just ONE, it would be the 23mm.
