Nikkor 55-300 vs 55-200
#1
Hi,
Maybe Marcus knows the answer...
Photozone found the 55-200 VR to be fantastic lens. But we don't have a 55-300 reviewed yet. If someone knows this, do the lenses have basically same performance from 55 to 200?
55-200: its amazing how well the lens did in the test.

Hi,

this lens has all bars touching excellent at all focal lengths ?? :o

What is the reason? Am i missing something?

Is it because of 10MP?

70-300's which are expensive than this also don't have this kind of graph??

i see it at 55mm lagging in the borders quite badly for a 55mm, and at 200mm it reaches "excellent" only just in the center, and just misses it at the borders.

Nothing exceptional, really.

Compare it to its peer, and it is pretty comparable (Canon EF-S 55-250mm f4-5.6 IS on 8mp APS-C), just a slight lead for the Nikon with smaller focal range.

The EF 70-200mm f4 L IS USM (on 8mp APS-C) shows what kind of results "a fantastic lens" produces:

The Nikon 55-200mm VR  is a nice basic tele zoom like most others in its class on APS-C, I do not know how the 55-300mm compares though.

Used to have the 55-300mm (combined with D3000 – light package with long reach, excellent for hiking). Sharp enough, even at the long end. Ditched it eventually as it was awfully slow – resulted in huge number of missed / misfocused shots, especially those of moving objects  <_<

Markus, you better hurry up.

Everyone is waiting for 18-35 review.

Some are also waiting for 55-300 review, for a long time.

When you do the review, pls also compare it to 55-200 VR, on a 16mp sensor.

Please don't tell him to retest, please! There is so much new stuff our there.

Too late, Klaus, the 55-200 VR is already done Wink
