lens tests on the horizon
#1
Hi all,

we know that it has been not overly active here for the various reasons which have been outlined already.

Normally we don't provide a guidance but to ease the pain of waiting we'd like to announce the following tests that will be performed in January (centering issues notwithstanding).

Fuji XF 18-55

Sony E 10-18 OSS

Sigma 19mm f/2.8 (Sony E)

Sigma 30mm f/2.8 (Sony E)

Olympus 60mm

February/March is still fuzzy but you can expect:

Sigma 35mm f/1.4 Canon

Zeiss ZE 35mm f/1.4

Olympus 75mm f/1.8

Panasonic 35-100mm OIS

Sony E 35mm OSS

Canon 70-200/4L

Fuji 14mm

Plus some Nikon stuff I hope.

Lenstip as well as SLRgear are through with this lens. You are waiting for a "we too" from PZ?

2 Fuji

3 mft

4 Sony Nex

3 Canon

A nice mix.

I am guessing your testing equipment finally arrived down under? A shame the canon EF 24-70mm f4 L IS USM review is not yet on the horizon, or the 35mm f2 IS USM.

Happy new year!

Yes, it's all here now. The last obstacle was my Imatest PC. The CPU cooler was torn off its mount at some stage of the relocation. The replacement came in the day before yesterday.

The 24-70L will, of course, be tested but it has yet to arrive here.

Yikes, good thing the PC boards did not get damaged by the cooler!

Klaus,

There are a few lenses that i really miss being reviewed on Sony Full Format at your great page.

These include:

Sony 70-400 f4-5,6G (only APS-C available)

Minolta 35mm f2,0

Minolta 28-135 f4-4,5

Also the Sony E16-50mm f3,5-5,6 on a Nex6 or any other Nex.

Would you review any of these if i send them one you (no problem to keep it a month or two)?

Thanks,

Clemens

These are some very interesting reviews in the queue, especially the mirrorless ones <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

I'm more and more thinking about complementing my classic (and heavy) DSLR gear with a lightweight non-obtrusive mirrorless system. It's so hard to decide:

- Sony have great sensors and bodies (great EVF), but poor lenses (that state of affairs seems to be changing though)

- MFT have great boddies and lenses (and now sensors), but I find DOF a bit too limiting

- Fuji have great sensor and lenses, although the selection is limited and it's not that that small; plus, RAW support is weak

- Samsung have great lenses (awesome pancakes at a very affordable price esp. in EU) but they don't seem so commited; plus, their small bodies all lack an EVF

MFT seems to be the most complete well-thought system... if only the sensor was a bit larger, ugh.

Anyway, I'm looking for the reviews with great impatience!

Happy New Year everyone <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Hi Sammy, while there is a point to what you write, the reasons why are obvious and have been discussed.

dpreview also went through periods of not producing much due to relocation/office moves. They are still going strong.

Lenses have a longer live cycle than cameras - a bit of delay is not so critical. With that in mind, having a reasonably complete back catalog of test is important to answer questions of whether to buy an older version instead of the current.

Also I feel a "we too" is important. I typically confirm with a number of sites whether or not they do or do not get compatible results.

In the end it is photozone. I invested a fair amount of time over the years to discuss matters (and ask highly critical questions) with the team here. I feel from all the tests you quote I understand best what these numbers mean and what they do not mean.

In summary, I feel you could be a bit more welcoming, but that might just be my view.

Have a good day

Joachim
