Sigma 35mm f1.4: (almost) the best 35mm f1.4 lens?
#1
Lenstip has already published a review about this lens: http://www.optyczne.pl/index.php?test=ob...est_ob=282

According to the review, wide open at f1.4 the Sigma is the sharpest: 38.8lpmm vs 30.1 for Zeiss, 25.1 for Nikkor, 31.1 for Canon, 20.4 for Sony, and 27.2 for Samyang. The maximum resolution is 47.4lpmm, similar to Zeiss but maginally better than Nikkor and Canon.

According to the review, the Sigma has only one "cons": huge vignetting (google translation of "ogromne winietowanie"). But according to the test numbers, on the vignetting aspect the Sigma is similar to the Nikkor 1.4/35G, better than the Canon 1.4/35L. The Zeiss 1.4/35 appears to be better than the Sigma.

Here is the long list for the "pros" (google translation again):

  • stylish and well made case,

  • sensational image quality in the center of the frame,

  • good image quality at the edge of the frame,

  • small longitudinal chromatic aberration,

  • great Lateral chromatic aberration corrected,

  • the smallest in its class distortion,

  • well corrected coma,

  • moderate astigmatism,

  • quiet and smooth autofocus

  • generous standard equipment,

  • great value for money.

Looking forward to the test result at photozone <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Hi,

I think Sigma are pulling all the stops out now with their new lenses and quality promise, the test results of the new 50-150 2.8 OS HSM lens (according to SLR camera) are absolutely sensational,at all apertures and all focal lengths there top notch! They seem now to want to produce only the best possible lenses in the "EX" category. Good times are ahead of us,even if these lenses are not a lot cheaper than the OEM offerings. P.S.If their promises of tighter quality control are met, perhaps we will see a lot less decentered lenses hit the shelves. P.S.PS. Please bring them out in Pentax bayonet.

With a lens like this i think the low laca cannot be under-estimated. The raw resolution and build quality are just a bonus <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />
