Fujifilm X-E1 plus 2 new lenses
#1
Fuji announces the version of its EX-Pro, the X-E1. The only difference between the two versions are the size and the removal of the optical view finder. http://www.dpreview.com/ plus a price of 1000e for the body and 1400€ for the kit with the new 18-55 f2.8-4 zoom lens. The rest is virtually all the same and all the improvements, well almost all, that users have asked for are included, as they also are in a firmware update to the EX-Pro. Finally, the 14mm f1.4 WA lens to top it off.

In simple terms, it means that either the EX-1 or the Pro are available with improved autofocus, manual focus and buffer read times halved at either 1000€, if you don't need the OVF or 1600€ if you must have both EVF and OVF.

To me it seems a pretty powerful package, particularly with the excellent optics and more to come in 2013. What do you all think? Does it make the X100 superfluous? I think it means that Fuji is listening to the market and reacting very, very quickly.

Nikon, where are the successors to the D300s and the D700? Time to get off the pot!

uhmm... The successor to the D700 is the D800.

Not sure where they fit in with news about this Fuji though <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />

Yes and no! In many ways, the D800 is the successor to the D3X and it does not make the D700 irrelevant or obsolete. A D600 might. It fits just to show how quick Fuji is on their feet in comparison to Nikon, but if you want to nitpick........! [Image: dry.gif]

Now, instead of trying to find errors in my input, what about giving us your opinion of the new camera?? That would be relevant. [Image: tongue.gif]

Your not missing anything; My mistake [Image: smile.gif]! What is your opinion of the new camera??

Dear Zoners,

I agree, this new Fuji Camera system seems quite powerful to me, why:

- compact

- EVF, high quality, this will be the future in most systems imho

- lenses exactly according to my taste, much quicker in place than e.g. Sony E or Nikon DX

- high quality, "large area" sensor on par with the best

- reasonable price

lets see whether the wide angle lenses will meet the high expectations.

Cheers

The D800 is just a D700 follow up. Similar body style, size. Similar AF system. Similar weather sealing. Similar everything except progress in video functionality and sensor resolution.

The D3X is a big pro body DSLR with built in grip, and has no successor (the concept did not make too much sense). The D3s has a successor in the D4.

I do not see Fuji being quick on their feet at all. It has been ages since the S5 DSLR. Now finally a 2nd body in this new APS-C EVIL range.

Meanwhile, Nikon has introduced the 1 series (not that I do like the concept of those), new D4, new D800, relatively new D7000 (which does just about everything the D300s did, but with a better sensor), new models in the 5XXX and 3XXX series, and quite a lot new lenses including a redesigned 85mm f1.8 and a 28mm f1.8. And they are working on other DSLRs.

Claiming that Fuji is quick on their feet compared to Nikon is a bit odd, in my view (seeing the huge amount of products Nikon has introduced this last year). Claiming that conceptually the Nikon-1 series is not too impressive, that will make more sense.

The full frame Nikons have nothing in common with an APS-C EVIL though. Would be a bit more understandable if one were to say that Fuji shows an interesting line up compared to for instance the Canon EOS M.

I like what I see but of course it boils down to the handling and AF experience. I'm loosely in a market for a mirrorless and it's good (if a bit tantalizing) to see more and more viable choices emerge. Though Canon M is what looks the most interesting to me since I have no resources to build a whole new lineup of lenses unless I sell of my DSLR kit (I'm not ready for this just yet).

Dear Brightcolours,

Right, my comment was referring to a particular camera segement, for my personal taste one of the most intersting, it is the high quality and compact one. IMHO this is/will be covered by APCS-EVIL, eventually by DLSR APSC.

In this segment Fuji has found a gap and seems to be the quickest, at least for the moment, why:

-Nikon has no body at all in this segment, the DLSR DX has annoying gaps in lens line up, e.g. no compact 21 or 35mm equivalent lenses, no top quality compact zooms.

- Same with Sony and Canon DLSRs

- Canon has finally one APCS EVIL, but no VF, 2 lenses, lets see

- Sony has the most advanced bodies, e.g. NEX 6 and NEX 7, but lets see whether there will ever come a sharp wide angle lens, I suspect this since the sensor/flange distance is very short...

- Samsung does not benefit from the bigger sensor size, at least for the moment

- LEICA M, perfect lenses, but outdated sensor and VF technolgy, and very expensive

- Zeiss M, promise of a digital body not kept yet

- so the only mature systems is m43, but I would prefer a larger sensor

I agree with you Brightcolours, that we should not trust Fuji too much, since all other approaches from Fuji Camera Systems seem to be on the slowest side...

All the best

Andreas
