Birds in flight and action photography
#1
Hi,

I have tried searching but found not so useful information or techniques.

Any tips and/or techniques to shoot birds in flight as well as action/sports photography with Nikon D3s

Thanks

well dear Walid you've asked about action and birds, and i've recently put up a picture of a bird, so although i'm sure everyone knows better than i, the following works on action shots for me, a simple shaky old amateur -

with my 7D, i find that if i use spot focus/continuous follow focus with my 70-300, then whatever the fast moving object is, it always seems to be in focus, so long as the spot focus point covers the eyes <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' /> - also i need at least 1/1600th or better to stop movement…… also i find with this camera that if spot focus is impossible because of rapid sudden changes of direction, then zonal af (using a group of points)+ continuous follow focus works very well indeed until something in the foreground is in the way and even the full 19 point af works remarkably well depending on the subject - (on this camera to change the style of focus points is a one button quick change + the joy stick changes focus points)

so for me, this camera/lens combo has been perfect for difficult moving objects, and the method works wherever, and i'm sure your nikon would be at least as good - but i hope someone will come forward with a more precise and involved answer than this

SoLong is right and I would add the following:

plus good number of hours practicing,

make sure you have enough CF cards with you,

battery is fully charged before you go out.
