The list prices are increasing across the board it seems - not just at Nikon.

The earnings in this industry aren't really high so while this may be unfortunate on a personal basis it is understandable from a commercial standpoint.

Quick reaction indeed, as demand is so strong and Canon priced it's 2 new DSLR's higher already, Nikon is taking the obvious step, though depending on the local market as it seems.. I've been able to get the D800 at a "promotional" price (equivalent to 2.680 euros) but I've been told the D800 is generally on back-order, and will remain so in the next weeks... So we might be seeing a price-up soon as well.. <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

I guess the basics of economics apply for here: supply & demand... If I remember correctly, (planned) production quantities were 30.000 for D800 and 5.000 for D800E (monthly). Depending on the pre-ordered quantities, Nikon might think that such adjustments are just... But I hope not globally...

And as Wojtt already mentioned, the prices for the new 5D-III could be another effect also...

How much % is the increase in UK?

From memory about 7% on D800, 10% on D4

What annoys me is that these goodies are just getting farther away! - if you have to save, that is

I think Nikon wants to catch the 5D-III... in the race for spoiling a good mood...

If it is not because of an unwanted shorfall in production, I believe that the general rules of economics mentioned above are exploited in a very negative way.

Or, as nikonrumors cites a Nikon UK manager, an error in initial pricing?

There was no error in initial pricing. Nikon underestimated the demand for both the D4 and the D800. When they saw the enormous demand, the increased the prices. Pure supply and demand basic economics.
#9
But that doesn't explain why they increase the price in the UK only.

I believe the 'error in pricing' comment like I believe in pink elephants - they had to say something, and honesty would have been better.

The new arrivals were expensive to start with ('Treasure Island' as usual)

I did work in the USA some years ago - every time I returned to Europe I felt that 'robbed' feeling again when I saw prices of... well, most things, really.

On reflection, the question of UK only may have been a 'toe in the water' to see the response, and also to prepare other markets, courtesy of the Internet. Also, (without checking) I believe the movement in £/Yen rate has made Japanese goods cheaper recently.
