New Canon 5d mark III details
#1
Available here for pre-order. Looks pretty disappointing considering specification wise it seems worse or equal to the D800 yet is $500 more expensive.

Well, it remains to be seen if these are indeed the final specs or if they simply summed up the rumors. FWIW, the rumor mill suggested even slightly more than 6 fps (6.9 fps I think), but these numbers disappeared later.

However, if these specs are true, Canon probably offers a camera that will be more attractive to most compared to the D800. Yes, there's less resolution, but still enough for most and the D800's 36 MP is much more than many really need or even want. And with 6 fps (if true) it qualifies for action photography much better than the slower D800 (slower at full resolution/full sensor size).

It would finally be the "EOS 3D" many were hoping for.

Almost seems pointless speculating this late in the game when there are lots of pointers we'll have the facts tomorrow. As there seems to be a lot of activity in the Far East, I'm hoping that means we wont need to wait late in the day to find out here in the West.

If indeed true, and the rumours have been going this way for quite some time, I see no need to upgrade unless my current 5D II breaks down.

I was hoping for 39 to 45 MP... <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Big Grin' />.

Kind regards, Wim

Actually 5D3 specs are pretty much similar to D800 and based on specs it seems 5D3 target larger customer group than D800.

Most probably the future 3D will be your friend then <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />...

Actually I don't get the pricing strategy of Canon exactly. More expensive than D800 and the price increase will hardly justify the 5D2 owners' expectations... The long-felt want for the AF improvements maybe...

I don't need those AF improvements... What I do need/want is a higher resolution, to make big prints look nicer. <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Big Grin' />

Automatic benefit of higher MPs (and newer sensor) is better iso performance at lower resolutions too <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Big Grin' />.

I guess I'm a lucky bastard then. 22mp don't make it necessary to start from scratch with the EOS lens tests. [Image: laugh.gif]
