D4 high-ISO samples

....doesn´t seem to me like a (real) step above D700/D3, not speaking of D3s sensor. Or maybe after 3 years of development, I expected slightly more....

p.s. Thank you, Klaus! :-)

Remember the 4 MP increase. Also tells us Nikon has reached the edge of their technology since the D3s... for now.

Checking the image with the bottle (ISO 6400), I can tell that D4 can do much better than the D700/D3. But I can't really tell if we consider the 3 years of time for the potential improvements. OTOH, apart from the sensor, the AF and metering seems to be just with that respect.

I never used the D3s, but looking forward to check images side by side... Oh I mean D3s vs. D4s <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />...

By the way, the new 85mm seems to have a decent bokeh but suffers from color fringes... And I suspect there exist some color fringes which are not caused by the lens itself (the last image, highlights around shutter release button)... But I'm not the expert <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />...

Some interesting comments from Joe Mc Nally on http://www.joemcnally.com

Bear in mind that he's hired by Nikon..... but he talks of great skin tones, fine detail and foregiveness in shadows etc etc

Worth a look, he seems impressed, albeit there's a lot of (USA) hype. At least he's had a few weeks with the camera, which is more than most commentators.

(sorry, US ex-colleagues....)

Looks like normal bokeh fringing around a overexposed hotspot to me. The shutter is slightly behind the focal plane, so the green color "fits".

Really looking forward to test this one, I guess it will stay in my bag after the review <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />

I hear you - I've been waiting for that upgrade for three years now. Finally, it's here. I hope it holds up to the expectations.

Good to hear that...

I was just giving my very initial point, it is way too early to draw any kind of serious conclusion at the moment of course (...about D4 performance).

Ahhh, Joe McNally.... yes, I respect him as a great photographer(in fact, almost an artist with light), however, as you said, he is paid Nikon ambassador which says all..... (or can you imagine him saying "well, the D4 is great but to be hones the improvement over D3s is rather minor in reality..." <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />

Saw McNally at photokina and Nikon's own exhibition in Cologne (don't remember the name, "Nikon Solutions" or something similar), he's certainly addicted to the brand (especially the CLS part), but nontheless fun to watch and to listen to. Even if you're not a Nikon user his blog and also his books are an interesting read.

Most certainly not... but he improvised some Mark III AF jokes during his show <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />

A pity he and David Hobby didn't expand their tour to overseas, I would have loved to attend on of these events...

David Hobby.. The most annoying person to talk. The DVDs he's made about strobing, I just can't do it, he is too annoying.
