7D: Spot AF is not available in vertical position
#1
Yesterday I noticed that when I turn my camera to vertical position the spot AF vanishes and I'm stuck with regular AF. Flip it again to horizontal, spot AF returns. Flip again it to vertical, spot AF vanishes. I thought it might be a CF so I RTFM but no avail. I couldn't spot it (ha ha <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />).

BTW, if anyone wonders how I know which AF mode I'm in, it's visible in the viewfinder. Regular AF is a square and spot AF is a square within a square.

Anyone has any idea what's going on? TIA.

I assume it's related to the custom function that allows you to select different AF settings for the two orientations. I haven't used it myself so I'm not familiar with the exact behaviour of it. At least that should give a starting point.

Well, it seems it's C.Fn III-12 turned on but the manual is indeed not very clear about this. Is it just me?

Probably <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />.

Nah, none of the manuals that come with cameras are very clear at all, unless you already know how to use the camera <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />.

BTW, you should try a 1D 3 manual for a laugh....

I just tried it... seems simple enough. With that custom function enabled, the AF setting for horizontal, vertical grip up, vertical grip down are completely independent of each other. You have to set the mode and point(s) you want for each orientation.

It's just silly. The manual states nothing about this CF and spot AF. <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/angry.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

The manual does describe it on the bottom of page 214 in my English version.

It's the CF page. It says nothing about spot AF.

Ok, it doesn't mention it specifically, but it does say you can change the position and mode of AF for each orientation.
