A 250MP APS-H sensor has been announced, it should be available end of October. Capable of 5 FPS at full resolution....
That pixel pitch translates to a 389mp FF sensor.

Another sensor, this time in rumour space, is a 21mp FF sensor, with global shutter. It is suggested to be for an "EOS R1". 120dB dynamic range, 120 FPS full readout capable.

Well that confirms 21 Mps with global shutter for the R1 at least .... and it also confirms that Canon didn't feel the ES was suitable for a pro sports camera either .....
.... Nikon rumours are stating 45 Mps for the Z9 ......... using Global shutter tech or a fast mechanical shutter one asks oneself ? ...... with ES as a sort of get out of jail card for situations where camera noise is forbidden ....
....... I hope the Nikon Z9 has 45 Mps ....... it's just what wildlife shooters are looking for ..... it could also prevent the inevitable direct head to head with Canon's R1 if the cameras have the same specs!

Combining a global shutter with 45mp worth of data and a high frame rate will be a bridge too far for a Nikon Z9.
